And in the early days of April...
My March included a change. I have been using Xubuntu 9.10 last 11 days (according Identi.ca I dented 11 days ago that I am installing Xubuntu). Reason to this was that my CrunchBang Statler Alpha was unsuccessful. Live worked well but installing from USB stick didn’t work. I wasn’t really in mood for trying something completely different and spend another day for installing and tweaking, so I Xubuntu was my choice.
I have had some audio problems so nothing new there. I won’t go into details in that. I can use Pino which is absolutely fabulous µ-blogging client. Recommending it to everyone. USE IT! I like Xfce panel, if only I could disable the icons in task list. I also miss Pekwm menu. I don’t appreciate that I don’t have full power of my menu. Well I actually installed Pekwm today. So might change to that after finishing this. For some reason I just feel a lot more comfortable with text files. Anyway I also like the fancy composition effects, I wish xcompmgr would work as well with Pekwm (this is just my experience, I know people who have had no problems with xcompmgr and pekwm). I guess this is my not too exciting experience with Xubuntu 9.10, not counting the rebellious audio, it does the job for me.
And this post would be nothing without screenshots:
Wallpaper: Recycling=…
Gtk: Lucid
Xfce: Techni-BW
Icons: GNOME-colors
Applications: Pino, urxvt (ncmpcpp (mpd, mdpscribble), irssi), Pidgin, gPodder, Thunar, NetworkManager Applet, Conky.
Ooh and can’t wait the final release of CrunchBang Statler! :D

I have been thinking to buy own domain for this blog in some near future. Anyway in case my few readers have any suggestions for good name, I definitely welcome then. Cutebuntu, while I think it sounds really nice, I won’t be using because it doesn’t really work anymore. I have been thinking “Cutetux” but I am not sure if I like it as much. Cuteness (well domain wouldn’t need to include word cute necessarily) and being related to Linux is important for me.
I could not agree more about the compositing. It would be good if xcompmgr was slightly more stable and better featured. As far as I know, Xfce’s compositor has its roots in xcompmgr, so developing xcompmgr further, to match that of Xfce’s compositor is not beyond the realms of imagination.
Regarding domains, how about “queentux.org”. :D
I guess you could have a try with : “furrytux” ?
@Philip: Queentux.org sounds quite tempting. Shame that someone has already registered it with .com tld, I don’t want .com tld but it’s still shame.
Regarding the xcompmgr, seems to be working okey (well… I installed it 5 mins ago) with Pekwm, now that I am using Xubuntu 9.10. But yeah, doesn’t visible slow anything and when you move windows it doesn’t leave traces.
@Samae: Thanks for a suggestion. :)
